About us

Topas Travel has been providing extraordinary travel experiences around the world since 1973. Mr Jørgen Sølvsten Nielsen, the owner of our company, has put his life’s work into developing a dream that now spans over 36 countries, delivering unique adventures and lodging in remote parts of this beautiful planet.

Jørgen understands that modern travellers expect a much higher quality and service then those old school explorers trucking across the Saharan Desert, but their enthusiasm for seeking authentic and active experiences remains much the same, and Topas Travel continues to excel with its range of unique experiences across Vietnam.

Our Ethos

We respect the destinations we work in, and a considerable effort goes into preserving the environment. At Topas Ecolodge, we have invested significantly in sustainable initiatives such as waste-water filtration systems and heat-converting rubbish incinerator with zero emissions. A major solar project is now underway, as is the initiative to move towards becoming a plastic-free lodge. And we have been giving back to local communities of Vietnam: since the inception of the Vietnam Trail Running Series we have donated over $250,000 from the runners’ participation fees to support local charities.

We are built on doing the right thing. For over 20 years Topas has been investing in Vietnam, because that is what we love to do. We are proud of what we have achieved to date, and excited for what the future holds for the expansion of Topas Travel into a number of new active experiences.
We look forward to welcoming you to Vietnam!

Our Resorts

It has all started in 1993 when the Danish travel company started running adventure tours to Sapa and Fansipan mountains area. From that an idea of building a comfortable explorer’s base was first born, and the first resort, Topas Ecolodge, opened in 2005. Later on, in a picturesque village of Nam Cang further into the valley, Topas has entered a partnership with a local family to run Topas Riverside lodge. Originally a homestay, Topas Riverside has recently been remodelled and modernised and is now fully owned by Topas.

Topas Ecolodge

18 km away from Sapa town and sitting atop of a mighty mountain is Topas Ecolodge, a tranquil sustainable retreat set within pristine nature. For rest and relaxation, we have 33 private bungalows, a modern Vietnamese and Western restaurant, two infinity pools complete with breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys, and a spa specializing in traditional Red Dzao herbal baths.
